Banks-powered Fandango placed fourth overall
in Commodore's Cup
When the overall results were compiled at the
end of the final short inshore race of the Commodore's Cup,
David Scanlan's Beneteau First 40.7 was confirmed as the fourth-placed
individual boat behind a trio of IMX 40s. This meant that Fandango
was top British boat at the event by a large margin.

Round The Island Yacht Race, Isle of
Man
Organised by the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club, this year saw
the golden jubilee of the Round The Island Yacht Race which
was sponsored by Strix.
Frank Newton's Sigma 38, Bootlegger Of Man (left), was first
boat across the line after 13 hours and 52 minutes of racing.
Bootlegger also won the IoM Breweries Cup for the best corrected
time in Division 1A.
For this year Bootlegger has been equipped with a whole new
Bank Sails upwind Class inventory comprising a Checkmate Pentex
Mainsail, Checkmate Pentex No.1, Checkmate Pentex No.2 and Crosscut
Dacron Working Jib. Frank and his crew have all been very impressed
with the performance of the new sails across the wind range.

Banks Sails takes President's Cup Regatta, Philippines
The J35 Jo de Ros (left) sailed by George Hackett won the Cruiser/Racer
division of the President's Cup Regatta 2002 in the Philippines.
This victory follows on from Jo de Ros's wins in 1998, 1999,
2001 and 2002.
George was particularly pleased as he is still using the same
Main, Light/Medium Genoa and Heavy Genoa as in 1998. In fact
only one sail in the boat's inventory has been replaced since
1999! Many other boats in the fleet had purchased new sails
for the event but in the end a combination of a well-prepared
boat, good amateur crew and Banks Sails proved to be a winning
formula.

Fandango wins RORC Red Funnel Easter
Challenge
65 boats participated in this year's Easter Challenge held in
the Solent over April 29th-31st.
The largest class by far was IRC 1 which had a 26-boat fleet
that included many production boats such as First 40.7s, Prima
38s, Reflex 38s, Hod 35s and various Swans as well as some one
offs. David Scanlan's Banks Sails-powered First 40.7 Fandango
showed great consistency across the varying conditions in the
highly competitive fleet to score 2,1,5,1,5,4 and take IRC 1
overall. Read the report from onboard Fandango here.
In IRC 3 Stewart Broughton scored a 3rd overall in his Sunfast
32, also with Banks Sails.

Warsash Spring Series Race 2
Conditions were close to perfect for Race 2 of the Spring Series
on March 24th. With an easterly breeze of 10-14 knots the committee
laid a start line near the Brambles and set a long first beat.
The remainder of the course was then a series of triangles allowing
competitors to show their speed on upwind, reaching and running
legs.
Banks Sails powered boats were to the fore in both IRC 1 and
IRC 2. Robbie Boulter's Mills 37 Thunder 2 was first in IRC
1 by just under two minutes on corrected time. In IRC 2 Dave
Scanlan's First 40.7 Fandango took the honours by 1 minute and
15 seconds. Read the report from onboard Fandango here.
Fandango was flying her new Checkmate Carbon Medium No.1 Genoa
and led around every mark, showing superior upwind speed in
a fleet that included six other 40.7s.
